Wildlife Management

Program Information

Welcome Hei Hei, JLHOA’s first dog ambassador! We’re excited to introduce Hei Hei, our newest (and furriest) team member. Residents may spot Hei Hei on-site before park opening hours, helping to scare and deter the birds from stopping or nesting around the lake.

  • Please note: This is a controlled and supervised wild-life management initiative. Dogs are not permitted in the park or lake outside of this structured trial program. Participation will only occur under staff direction and within designated times / areas to ensure safety for residents, pets, and wildlife.

Through this trial program we are aiming to reduce the frequency and amount of birds around park and lake grounds, with the presence of “real” predators. This has been an effective and humane deterrent used in Alberta lakes.

Bird activity can negatively impact water quality (increased algae), safety, and beach conditions—which is why it’s crucial for our team to deploy a variety of bird deterrent strategies.

This trial allows us to develop the proper structure for the program, effectiveness, and work out the details before opening the program to residents. To gauge resident interest in this program, let us know through a quick survey!
