On Family Day, February 16, we’re launching our first Ice Fishing Derby, running through the end of the month. This team‑based event will award the prize to the group that reels in the longest trout. Since the derby runs until the end of the month, each team can submit up to three entries. 

Curious about the prize? One lucky team will win 4 WHL HOCKEY TICKETS to an Oil Kings vs. Calgary Hitmen game—because who doesn’t love a classic Battle of Alberta.

Teams of two to four participants can register by purchasing a $5 team-entry ticket. Anglers of all ages are welcome; however, participants 13 and under need to be registered on a team with a parent or a resident 14 years or older. Residents may form teams with non‑community members as long as guests are aware of the JLHOA Ice Fishing Rules and Regulations.

Event Details

Before heading out to fish, each team must check in at the maintenance building for introductory information. Please note that JLHOA fees must be settled to participate.

• Begins: Monday, February 16

• Ends: Saturday, February 28 – EXTENDED until March 8

• Time: During park hours

• Team Size: Team of 2 to 4 participants

  • Guests: Permitted only when participating on a team with a resident

• Entries: Max three submissions per team

  • Registration Opens: NOW OPEN

  • Registration Closes: March 7, 2026 at 11:59 pm

• All Ages Welcome: Anglers 13 and under must be registered on a team with a parent or a resident 14 years or older

• Provided: Laminated rulers and an auger

  • Residents are encouraged to bring their own manual / electric augers, as we have a limited supply

• Disqualifications: Teams that are seen not following the JLHOA Ice Fishing Rules and Regulations will forfeit their entries.

• JLHOA staff will provide each team with a laminated ruler for accurate measurements to photograph the catches. If you think your team has landed the longest trout, take a photo of the fish beside the ruler and send it to info@jensenlakeshoa.ca.

  • In the event of a tie for the largest fish, the JLHOA staff will hold a draw to determine the winning team from those with the top catches.

The winner will be announced on March 13, 2026!
